Who doesn't love beach cocktails? There is something about sipping a cold, refreshing drink with your toes in the sand that just makes everything feel right. Whether you are heading to the ocean for a long weekend, packing up the cooler for a lake day, or just spending the afternoon at the pool, the right cocktail can take a good beach day and make it a great one.

Who doesn't love some beach cocktails?

The best beach cocktails have a few things in common. They are easy to make, easy to transport, and seriously delicious. You want something that holds up in a cooler, does not require a full bar setup to assemble on-site, and actually tastes amazing even when it is a little warm from sitting in the sun for five minutes. Think tropical flavors, light and refreshing ingredients, and nothing too fussy. A frozen margarita, a classic rum punch, a sparkling spritz, a fruity vodka lemonade. These are the drinks that were made for beach days.

    The Best Beach Cocktails

Below you will find all my favorite beach cocktail recipes, from fruity rum drinks to easy tequila cocktails to bubbly spritzes that travel like a dream. But first, here are my best tips for prepping beach cocktails so everything goes smoothly from your kitchen to the shoreline.

Tips for prepping cocktails for the beach

Batch your cocktails at home. This is the single most important beach cocktail tip. Mix everything together the night before or the morning of, pour it into a sealed container, and let the cooler do the work. Mason jars with tight lids, a large water bottle with a wide mouth, or a reusable pitcher with a lid all work great. When you are ready to pour, just shake, open, and go.

Skip the carbonation until you are ready to serve. If your cocktail calls for seltzer, sparkling water, prosecco, or ginger beer, do not add it to your batch mix in advance. It will go flat before you even hit the beach. Pack the carbonated component separately in a can or small bottle and add it to your cup right before you drink.

Freeze your mixers in advance. Instead of relying solely on ice, freeze some of your juice or mixer in ice cube trays the night before. Frozen juice cubes chill your drink without watering it down as they melt, which means your last sip tastes just as good as your first.

Use insulated tumblers or cups with lids. Drinks stay cold so much longer in a good insulated cup, and a lid keeps sand out, which is always a win. If you are in a group, pack a few extras to share. You will be everyone's favorite person at the beach.

Pre-cut your garnishes at home. Citrus wheels, lime wedges, pineapple slices, fresh mint. Do all of that cutting at home, pack the garnishes in a small zip-top bag or airtight container, and tuck them in the cooler. It takes two extra minutes at home and makes your beach drinks look so much more fun.

Label your containers. If you are making more than one cocktail for a group, label each container so there is no guessing when everyone is ready to drink. A piece of masking tape and a marker does the trick.

Bring more ice than you think you need. Seriously, always more ice. Especially in the summer. A half-full cooler of ice will not get you through a full beach day. Pack a separate small bag of ice just for your cups if you can.

Keep it simple and low-maintenance. The beach is not the place for a cocktail with fifteen ingredients and a complicated garnish situation. Choose drinks with four to five ingredients max. The simpler the recipe, the more time you actually spend enjoying the beach instead of playing bartender.

    Want some easy beach snacks?

I personally love having some chips and dips on a beach, and if you've never made this homemade salsa recipe, you HAVE to try it. Also, who doesn't love a French Onion Dip?

    Pin it for later!
