It is packed with flavor. The teriyaki is the perfect dish. It's a balance of salty, sweet, and savory. It adds the perfect flavor to cut through the somewhat fatty, rich-tasting salmon to make one delicious dinner.
The teriyaki glaze is so easy to make. First off, I use store-bought teriyaki only it makes for such a quick weeknight dinner! We keep things real simple over here. Second, making a glaze out of the leftover teriyaki sauce is easy!
Air fryer salmon is the BEST. Air frying salmon gives you the perfect flaky salmon in under 15 minutes. It's an easy clean-up, all you have to do is clean the air fryer basket, and a great healthy dinner option!
Ingredients
2 ingredients is all you need for this teriyaki salmon air fryer recipe! It couldn't be easier to make a healthy meal so full of flavor.
Teriyaki Sauce. I love the Soyaki from Trader Joe's, so that's what I used in this recipe. You can use your favorite store-bought teriyaki sauce!
Salmon Filet. I always opt for boneless filets. When shopping at Trader Joe's, I notice that the boneless filets are less expensive than the BBQ cut filets. They're essentially the same thing, but the BBQ is cut into smaller strips. I don't mind cooking an entire salmon filet like this, so I opt for the less expensive option!
How to make air fryer teriyaki salmon
- Place ½ cup of teriyaki sauce in your marinating bowl/container.
- Pat your salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Place in the bowl, salmon skin side up. Cover and place in the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes. You can also place the salmon in a freezer bag with the marinde, seal that and place in the fridge.
- Once your salmon is done marinating, preheat your air fryer to 390F. If your air fryer doesn't have a preheat setting, simply let it run empty at 390 for 5 minutes.
- Spray your air fryer basket with non-stick spray.
- Place your salmon filet in the air fryer and cook skin side down for 8 - 12 minutes, depending on how you like your salmon cooked.
- While that's in the air fryer, pour the remainder of your teriyaki marinade into a small saucepan. In a small bowl, whisk together ½ tablespoon of corn starch and ½ tablespoon of water.
- Over medium-high heat whisk in ½ tablespoon cornstarch and ½ tablespoon water with the teriyaki marinade.
- Once your sauce begins to thicken, take it off the heat.
- Continue to stir as the sauce is cooling so the sauce doesn't burn.
- Take your salmon out of the air fryer. Place it on your serving tray and pour the thickened teriyaki sauce over the cooked salmon.
- You can top with chives, green onions or sesame seeds.
- Enjoy!

how long should you marinate salmon?
Marinate salmon for at least 30 minutes in an air-tight container in the fridge.
do you wash salmon before marinating?
Nope! I don't wash my salmon, but I do make sure that I take it out of the packaging and pat it dry. I notice when I do that it gets rid of that real "fishy" off-putting taste.
Substitutions and variations
Teriyaki salmon bites. You can slice your salmon filets into bite-sized pieces, toss them in the teriyaki sauce, and make salmon bites instead of a filet. Either make for a delicious weeknight meal, it all depends on your personal preference!
Teriyaki sauce. To make this an easy recipe for busy weeknights, I use a store-bought teriyaki sauce. However, you can mae this quick homemade teriyaki sauce if you prefer that.
Frozen salmon. I tend to only use fresh salmon, but if you have frozen salmon, I recommend taking it out to de-frost and then begin the marinade process.
Additional spices. You can also add garlic powder, red pepper flakes, or onion powder to your favorite teriyaki sauce to make it a bit more personalized.
