I love a good tequila cocktail or shot, let's be honest. There are so many good chaser options for tequila. So, whether you love tequila, like me, or you want to hop on the tequila train, here are the best chasers for tequila.
Best chasers for tequila
The perfect chaser for tequila all depends on personal preference! I also think it depends on whether you're making a cocktail or taking a shot of tequila. Here are the best chasers for tequila.
Juice chasers for tequila
Sometimes a juice is the best chaser option for tequila, and there are so many options!
Sangrita
This is a traditional Mexican chaser for tequila. I know it sounds like sangria, but it is nothing like sangria at all. It's like a bloody mary mix with a lot more citrus flavor. However, there are so many sangrita variations. Some recipes don't call for tomato juice, and instead use more citrus and other fruits like papaya or mango. It also could include hot sauce to include a bit of spice for the taste buds. You can actually find sangrita on Amazon!
Lime Juice
Another traditional chaser for tequila is lime juice! Whether you're taking a bite out of a lime wedge after a shot, or you're including fresh lime in your favorite tequila cocktail, you can often find lime as the perfect chaser to this agave spirit. If you love spicy margaritas with fresh lime juice, you should try this cucumber jalapeno margarita.
Grapefruit Juice
I love a good Paloma cocktail, and if you are also a fan of grapefruit or Palomas, you should try using grapefruit juice as a chaser! You could also make a variation of a Paloma using Blanco tequila, grapefruit juice, and soda water.
Pickle Juice
I know this might sound weird, but don't knock this til you try it! If you've heard of pickleback shots, which are typically whiskey and pickle juice, or if you've taken a pickle back... you know that pickle juice magically gets rid of that alcohol taste. Next time you order a shot of tequila, try it as a pickle shot.
Cranberry Juice
Cranberry juice is such a popular choice when it comes to chasers for all different types of alcohol, and it's an ingredient in so many refreshing cocktails. It's a well-chosen chaser and for a good reason! It's the perfect amount of sweet and tart. I love making a Mistletoe Margarita around the holidays - it's so fun and festive!
Pomegranate Juice
Similar to cranberry juice, pomegranate juice has that tangy flavor that pairs perfectly with the flavor of tequila. This is one of my favorite chasers to mix with a shot of reposado tequila or añejo tequila. Those are aged tequilas that are similar to bourbon and whiskey, and pomegranate juice just pairs so deliciously with that aged flavor.
Grape Juice
Yes, grape juice! This is a great option if you like concord grape-flavored things! You should try making a margarita with grape juice using blanco tequila, fresh lime juice, grape juice and a splash of club soda. The grape juice adds such a delicious sweet taste that I think you'd love.
Orange Juice
Orange juice, or an orange slice, is one of the best chasers for tequila in my opinion. Next time you order a shot of tequila at the bar, ask for a slice of orange over a lime wedge, or a few drops of orange juice in a glass. This is my go-to tequila chaser. The zest of the citrus but the sweetness of the orange just depletes any taste of alcohol. If you're looking to make a tequila cocktail with orange juice, you have to try a Texas margarita!
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is also a great choice for a tequila chaser! The sourness of the lemon definitely takes away from the bite of tequila. Plus, I love pairing lemon juice with aged tequilas. Add a pinch of salt and it's so crisp and refreshing.
Soda chasers for tequila
Juices aren't the only chasers for tequila, sometimes you like to chase or mix with pop, or soda as the rest of the non-Midwest world calls it.
Ginger Ale
Ginger ale is a great chaser for so many liquors. I love the sweet ginger taste mixed with tequila! The peppery notes with the ginger complement the tequila so perfectly.
Grapefruit Soda
Similar to grapefruit juice, if you like Palomas, you have to try chasing or mixing your tequila with grapefruit soda. It adds such a wonderful taste to all your favorite tequila drinks.
Lemon Lime Soda
A classic choice of chaser, lemon-lime soda never disappoints. It's just a classic that goes with literally everything and anything!
