What is ricotta cheese?
Ricotta cheese is an Italian whey cheese. It's an incredibly fluffy cheese and the type of cheese that is so incredibly versatile. You can use it to make desserts, like cannolis, you can use it in lasagna recipes or you can use it for this delicious ricotta dip and let it be the star of the show.

Ingredients
Ricotta. I use part-skim ricotta in this recipe, but if you genuinely want a creamy ricotta cheese dip, I recommend using whole milk ricotta. You can find ricotta in the refrigerated cheese section in your grocery store. I like buying mine from ALDI, typically with cream cheese.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil. To get this creamy whipped ricotta dip extra creamy, you'll want to use a drizzle of olive oil to give it a nice silky smooth consistency and allow all the flavors to blend together.
Honey or Hot Honey. If you want to use regular honey, it adds the perfect bit of sweetness to counteract the garlic flavors. Alternatively, if you want to kick things up a bit, you can use hot honey and make this into a hot honey ricotta dip.
Garlic. I prefer to use garlic powder for this recipe over fresh garlic cloves. I find that it is a bit milder and it blends nicer with the fresh cheese and the rest of the flavors.
Basil. Fresh herbs are always welcome in a ricotta dip. I love the basil and honey combination, so that's what I used in this recipe. I shared some other ricotta dip recipes below for some more inspiration!
Salt and Pepper. Of course, you'll need salt and pepper. Ricotta is a very mild cheese so you really need to add a generous serving of salt to bring it up to speed.

Baked Ricotta Dip. You can always heat this up and serve it as a warm dip. Simply bake it at 400F for 10 minutes in an oven-safe baking dish.
Why is my whipped ricotta too runny?
Your whipped ricotta dip might be too runny if you add too much liquid. If that's the case, you can add more ricotta to thicken it up and get that perfect creamy texture.
Storing leftovers
Store your ricotta dip in an airtight container. I love these Ello food storage containers. Alternatively, you can always secure it by wrapping a bowl in plastic wrap. If you aren't serving the dip, store it in the fridge for up to 3-5 days.
