John Daly Cocktail Recipe with Deep Eddy's Sweet Tea Vodka

The John Daly cocktail is the perfect summer cocktail, and when you make it with Deep Eddy's Sweet Tea Vodka, it's a super simple 2-ingredient cocktail. It's the perfect poolside refresher or drink to make while you're soaking in the sun on a boat or at a beach on those hot days.

It pairs perfectly with a body of water like a pool or a lake. I mean, it just tastes like summer and it is the perfect drink for the summer. 

It’s otherwise known as a spiked Arnold Palmer. You may be thinking to yourself "isn't this just a boozy Arnold Palmer?" Yup! It absolutely is, they go by either legendary golfer name. You'll love this alcoholic version of an Arnold Palmer if you love a good Arnold Palmer. 

Ingredients

A traditional Arnold Palmer is half lemonade and half sweet tea. To make boozie Arnold Palmer cocktails, you typically just add vodka to that mix. However, I love making this version of the cocktail with sweet tea vodka. 

Deep Eddy's Sweet Tea Vodka. This is a flavored vodka that can be found at your local liquor store. For those of you who live in the Chicagoland area, I find it at Binny's. On Deep Eddy's website, they have a product and store locater which will make finding a bottle of this super easy! If you don't have access to Deep Eddy, or any sweet tea vodka, I included how to make your own homemade sweet tea lemonade. 

Lemonade. Now, in the spirit of keeping things easy, I like to buy lemonade. You can absolutely make homemade lemonade and Tastes Better From Scratch has a great recipe you can use. 

How to make this John Daly cocktail

1. In a highball glass filled with ice, add in 2 oz. of sweet tea vodka.
2. Top with your lemonade, I opt for the low-calorie lemonade from ALDI.

How to make your own sweet tea vodka.

Say you can't find Deep Eddy's or you want to take a swing at making homemade sweet tea-infused vodka, here's how. 

1. First, you'll want 1 750mL bottle of vodka and 4 Cold Brew Iced Black Tea Bags. In a large airtight container, like a 64 oz. Mason Jar, pour in your vodka and steep your tea bags. Because these are specifically made to be cold brewed, you only need 20 minutes to steep the tea. 
2. Remove your tea bags and add simple syrup to taste. You can buy simple syrup or opt to make your own by combining equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat and stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. I recommend using ½ cup water and ½ cup sugar. 

Tip: You don't necessarily need the nicest vodka, like Grey Goose, since you are infusing it. I would recommend something affordable like Smirnoff to make sweet tea-infused vodka. However, if you have a favorite vodka, use that brand!

What is the John Daly drink story?

American golfer John Daly is a professional golfer and aside from being known for how far he could drive a golf ball, he was known for his anti-"traditional" golf and charismatic personality. Most notably, his infatuation with heavy drinking, hence why when you take a classic Arnold Palmer, sweet tea and lemonade, (named after the American professional golfer) and add alcohol to it, it gets the name The John Daly Cocktail. It can other be known as the adult Arnold Palmer or the dirty Arnold Palmer.

Triple Sec.​ If you want to, you can add ½ an ounce of triple sec to your John Daly cocktail. 

How to make a batched John Daly cocktail

If you are looking to make this refreshing summer cocktail for your next casual backyard party, a leisurely round of golf, or a back porch hang with friends, here's how to make 10 cocktails.

1. ​In a large pitcher, add 2.5 cups of sweet tea vodka. If you don't have sweet tea vodka, you can simply add 2.5 cups of plain vodka. 
2. Add in 5 cups of fresh lemonade. If you don't have sweet tea vodka, add in 2.5 cups of lemonade and 2.5 cups of iced tea. 
3. To serve, pour over ice into a Collins glass, a tall glass, garnish with a slice of lemon, and enjoy this refreshing drink.
