You'll love this homemade maple latte

It's easy to make. I know the word "latte" might sound intimidating, but with a few simple ingredients, this creamy latte is a delicious way to get that cozy fall flavor right from the comfort of our own home.

It's delicious. Pure maple syrup adds such a delicious sweetness to coffee that tastes just like fall. It's perfect!

It's great hot or cold. I like making this as a hot latte, but if iced lattes are your thing, this is so easy to make over ice, too!

    homemade maple latte - hot.

    Ingredients

Real Maple Syrup. I love having maple syrup around to use as a sugar substitute when I'm making better-for-you baked goods. You can get it at any store, if you go through it as much as I do, I suggest getting it from Costco. The quality and the price can't be beat.

Espresso. Of course, you need espresso for a latte recipe!

Milk. Preferably whole milk, or even coffee creamer. I used the brown sugar oat milk creamer from Trader Joe's for this recipe and it was SO good!

Cinnamon. This is just to give your homemade latte a pretty garnish so when you sit down and enjoy it, you feel like you're in your favorite coffee shop.

How to make a maple latte

    1. Make your espresso.
    2. In a coffee mug, add 1-2 tablespoon of maple syrup. Depending on how sweet you like things, I suggest starting with 1 tablespoon and you can always add in more!
    3. Pour your hot espresso into the coffee mug and stir to mix the maple syrup with the coffee.
    4. In a microwave-safe glass, microwave 4-6 tablespoon of milk or cream for 30 seconds. Remove and froth.
    5. Pour over the coffee.
    6. Add a dusting of ground cinnamon, if you'd like, and enjoy a cozy cup of morning coffee!

Kitchen tools I use to make homemade lattes

Milk Frother. I bought this $10 milk frother from Amazon and I LOVE it.

Nespresso. I have a Nespresso machine and that's what I use to make espresso and any coffee drinks.

How to make an iced maple latte

If you prefer an iced latte, here's how you can make this cold!

    1. Make your shots of espresso and allow it to cool.
    2. Mix together your coffee and maple syrup and pour into a tall glass filled with ice.
    3. Froth your milk, or coffee creamer, and top on the iced maple espresso mix.
    4. Give it a gentle stir, top with a pinch of cinnamon, and enjoy!

Tips for making a latte without an espresso machine

Don't worry! You don't have to go out and buy an espresso machine for this recipe. It is so easy to make a latte without an espresso machine.

    1. Instant Espresso
    2. Strongly Brewed Coffee. You can make strong coffee with either a French press (3 tablespoon of coffee for 6 oz water) or Moka pot (2 tablespoon of coffee for 6 oz water.)
    3. Cold Brew. If you are trying to make iced coffee, you can use cold brew instead. This technically won't be a latte, but it still tastes delicious.

Tips for making a latte without a milk frother

Although I love my milk frother and recommend it to everyone, you can still froth milk without it!

    1. Mason Jar. I recommend only doing this with cold milk. But, add your milk to a mason jar, close it, and shake vigorously until it doubles in volume.
    2. Stove top. Pour 8-12 ounces of milk into a small saucepan over medium heat.
    3. Whisk constantly until the milk starts to boil. Remove from heat and whisk vigorously until the milk froths.

    Substitutions and variations

Milk. If you want to make this a dairy-free maple latte, you can use oat milk, almond milk, soy milk, or whatever your milk of choice is. Non-dairy milks, especially almond milk, may not froth the same as regular milk, but they still make for a perfect latte.
