It's such an easy recipe. Making homemade raspberry syrup is so easy to do! Once you make your own fruit simple syrup, you will be hooked! It's such a lovely addition to so many recipes.
It can be used so many ways. From adding it to your favorite cocktails or adding it to cold drinks like iced tea to make raspberry iced tea, there are so many different ways you can add that fresh raspberry flavor.
Ingredients
With a few simple ingredients, you can easily make this homemade fresh fruit syrup.
Water. You need water for any simple syrup recipe, living in Chicago, I use sink water. However, you can use filtered water, too!
Sugar. Similar to water, white sugar is essential to any simple syrup recipe! I included some sugar substitutes below if you'd rather not use granulated sugar.
Raspberries. I like using fresh raspberries, but you can always use frozen raspberries, too.
How to make homemade raspberry simple syrup
Once you learn how to make your own simple syrup, you will never buy the store-bought syrup again!
- In a small saucepan, add 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 2 cups of fresh raspberries.
- Over medium-high heat, stir your mixture until the sugar dissolves.
- Remove from heat and using the back of your spoon or a potato masher, mash the raspberries.
- Let that sit for 45 minutes - 1 hour.
- Place a fine mesh strainer over a bowl, and pour the mixture through the stainer.
- Using the back of a wooden spoon, press down on the raspberry seeds to make sure you got all of the juice out.
- Let the syrup sit in the bowl until it gets to room temperature. This should be an hour or two.
- Store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
Tip: If you want a thicker syrup, pour the strained simple syrup back into the saucepan, bring it to a boil, and then let it simmer over medium heat until it's thickened. Remember, it will thicken more as it cools!

Sugar. If you don't want to use white sugar, you can always use brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup! You can use the same measurements of each, but with honey and maple syrup, it may take a bit longer to thicken up given those sweeteners are both a liquid sweetener.
Other Fruit. You can substitute raspberries for all the summer berries, or peaches!
