You'll love this homemade dunkaroo dip
It serves nostalgia. Do you remember Dunkaroo Dip from the '90s and early 2000s? It is seriously one of the best things ever made, one of my favorite childhood snacks. Luckily, making homemade Dunkaroo Dip is super easy because you can't find original Dunkaroos in many grocery stores.
It’s fun to customize for holidays. Funfetti always comes out with holiday products, so this easy dessert dip super fun and easy to customize for holidays! I always love an easy holiday dessert recipe that you can make on the theme.
It’s so downright delicious. In case you needed to hear this, it is seriously SO GOOD. It's cake batter dip and it tastes like cake batter ice cream, but you eat it with animal crackers, graham crackers or whatever you like. It's so so good. You'll love making this for the next birthday party you attend.
Ingredients
With a few simple ingredients, this is such an easy recipe the whole family will love.
Funfetti Cake Mix. I bought a traditional Funfetti mix, but you can buy any holiday-themed mix, or a different brand if you prefer.
Cool Whip. Otherwise known as a whipped topping if you're opting for a non-name brand product. You can buy whatever brand, low-fat, full-fat, no matter what you prefer, just make sure you have an entire container of this.
Cream Cheese. I buy regular cream cheese, no flavor or anything. Similar to the Cool Whip, if you prefer a certain brand, or low-fat vs. full-fat, buy whatever cream cheese you like!
Sprinkles. There are not nearly enough sprinkles in the Funfetti Cake Mix, so you absolutely need to add sprinkles.
Vanilla Coffee Creamer. You need just a touch of liquid for this mix and I highly recommend using vanilla coffee creamer! It adds just a hint of richness and I always love adding vanilla to almost any all dessert recipes.
How to make homemade dunkaroo dip
Have I mentioned how easy this funfetti dip is to make? Um, cause it is truly beyond easy.
- You'll have to heat treat the cake mix to make it safe for eating. Raw flour isn't safe to consume! You can do that by preheating the oven to 350F, and spread the dry cake mix on a baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, stirring once or twice to avoid clumping. That's it! Your cake mix is now safe to consume.
- While your flour is baking, take your cream cheese out of the fridge to make sure it's room temperature. If you forget to take it out of the fridge in time, you can simply remove the cream cheese from the aluminum wrapping and microwave it for 5 seconds at a time.
- In a large bowl, pour your Cool Whip, Funfetti cake mix, cream cheese, sprinkles, and vanilla coffee creamer.
- Stir until combined, or if you don't want an arm workout, use a stand mixer or electric mixer.
- Top with more rainbow sprinkles. I always recommend the extra sprinkles.
Tip: I recommend letting it sit in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving! It'll let all the flavors sit together and make for the best funfetti cake batter dip.
What to serve with homemade dunkaroo dip
Here are my favorite dippers for this cake batter dip recipe.
- Graham Crackers
- Teddy Grahams
- Animal Crackers
- Fresh Fruit
- Vanilla Wafers
Substitutions and variations
Vanilla Yogurt. If you need to substitute cream cheese, you can use vanilla Greek yogurt instead. I recommend using 1 cup to start since yogurt is a bit thinner than Greek yogurt. YOu can also use plain yogurt!
White Cake Mix. You can always combine white cake mix with your favorite sprinkles to make this cake mix dip! You don't need a box of funfetti cake mix.
Vanilla Pudding. If you want to add an extra level off flavor, add a vanilla pudding packet! You will have to use a bit more creamer.
Storing leftover dip
You can store any leftover dip either in an airtight container, or you can tightly wrap cling wrap on top of your serving bowl. Store in the fridge for 3-5 days.
