The Corona Tequila Sunrise was a huge hit on TikTok around the Spring 2021. I'm revisiting this viral TikTok cocktail recipe for the upcoming summer season, it's such a perfect summer drink!
You'll love this Corona tequila sunrise
It tastes like summer. If there is one cocktail that encompasses summer, this is it. The blend of tequila, Corona, the sweetness of orange juice or pineapple juice, the zest of fresh lime, and the nostalgic taste of grenadine make for such a perfect cocktail for a hot day.
No cup required. Want a refreshing drink without making a mess? This requires no cups or anything! You use your beer bottle as your drinking vessel. So it's the perfect beach drink.
It is so delicious. Like I said, all those flavors come together for a perfect drink that is one of the best summer cocktails. If you aren't a huge beer fan, I still think you should give this beer cocktail recipe a try.
Ingredients
Corona - You can use Corona Extra, Corona Light, or Corona Premium for this Corona sunrise recipe, whichever is your favorite! I recommend whatever type you use, be sure to use a bottle of corona beer so you can see that sunrise-like appearance of the drink.
Tequila - I recommend using Blanco tequila for this recipe. It still has that great tequila bite, but the flavor of Blanco tequila vs. Reposado is milder, so you can let the other flavors in this cocktail shine.
Pineapple or Orange Juice - Since this is called "Sunrise" lots of recipes call for orange juice, which is great, but I love making this with pineapple juice. The tangy flavors of either juice adds the perfect flavor to complement the beer and tequila.
Grenadine - To get that "sunrise" look be sure to add your grenadine last. I am a fan of Rose's Grenadine or you can attempt to make your own!
Fresh Lime - If any cocktail recipe calls for lime, I'm always going to strongly suggest using fresh lime rather than fake lime juice. It tastes so much better fresh!
How to make this Corona tequila sunrise
- Open your Corona and drink it down to the top of the label. You want enough room to add your other ingredients.
- Add in your tequila, juice and grenadine. If you want to make sure you get that sunset look, add your grenadine last!
- Top with a lime wedge. I like to serve it without the lime squeezed in so you can serve it as that beautiful sunrise look.
- Cheers!

Tips for making the best Corona tequila sunrise
Pouring the grenadine. Add your splash of grenadine LAST so you get that traditional tequila sunrise look.
Spicy Corona sunrise. You can try adding some of this jalapeno-infused tequila.
What is the best tequila for a corona sunrise?
Blanco tequila is the best tequila for a Corona Sunrise cocktail. Which particular brand you buy is your preference! I really like Hornitos or Cazadores.
Blanco tequila vs. reposado tequila
Blanco tequila, otherwise known as silver tequila, isn't aged in barrels like Reposado tequila. The barrel aging adds a more complex flavor profile making Reposado tequila or Añejo tequila better for sipping, and not mixing with multiple other flavors or ingredients. So, when you're mixing, you want to use Blanco tequila to give you that fresh, slightly more mild, tequila flavor.
What to serve with this Corona tequila sunrise?
I love any excuse to dive into some of my favorite Mexican food recipes. Who doesn't love a chips and homemade salsa moment? This avocado cream dip and roasted corn salsa are also great appetizer ideas for your next happy hour. You can't go wrong with carne asada quesadillas or these baked chicken crispy tacos if you're looking to serve more than just apps with this Corona cocktail.
