I’m making fizzy margaritas on repeat this summer.
They're so easy to make. You only need 4 ingredients for this low-calorie tequila cocktail, and they are so flavorful! Plus, you can play around with different seltzer water flavors, and switch it up with fresh fruit or citrus, it's a solid foundation to create some fun new summer margaritas.
It’s full of flavor and low-calorie. I know you might be thinking "sparkling water and tequila? GROSS." I can assure you that these margaritas are so flavorful! For this recipe in particular I used the Key Lime sparkling water from ALDI and it's packed with flavor.
It’s fun to play around with sparkling water flavors. The sparkling water from ALDI is one of my favorite brands to use. Other honorable mentions include Trader Joe's sparkling water and Spindrift! Those are all sparkling waters that I find to be a bit more flavorful than others.
What makes them a super low-calorie margarita?
Sparkling water! The sparkling water is a super low-calorie mixer option if you're looking to make a super low-calorie margarita recipe. But, with the various flavors, you aren't sacrificing a good margarita for the sake of calories. I also like to add a squeeze of fresh lime, lemon, or orange to get that citrus flavor and add a little vitamin C to my drink.
Can you put sparkling water in a margarita?
Absolutely! I am a tequila lover so if I'm out at a bar, you will catch me ordering a tequila soda with lime. But, you can absolutely take your favorite flavor and make a skinny margarita with sparkling water.
Here’s what you need for a skinny margarita with sparkling water.
Fresh Lime. Depending on what flavor of sparkling water you use, you can opt for fresh lime, lemon, or orange. I used a key lime flavor sparkling water, so I used fresh lime in this recipe.
Light Agave. Some sparkling water isn't super sweet, so I like to add a touch of sweetness with light agave. I buy mine at ALDI, but you can also grab some off of Amazon, too!
Ice. Who wants a warm margarita? Add some ice to your drink! If you want to get real fun with your ice, you can order these tropical ice molds from Amazon. They are so adorable and perfect for summer.
Sparkling Water. Like I said, for this recipe, I used the key lime sparkling water from ALDI. I really like ALDI's sparkling water flavors, some come in bottles and some come in cans. I like the bottles since I can seal the bottle and use the sparkling water for a few days without it getting too flat.
Tequila. I use Hornitos tequila, naturally, I went to Costco and bought the Costco size for summer. Another tequila I really like is Cazadores. But for margaritas, I always recommend using Blanco tequila.
How do you make this fizzy margarita?
This is such an easy margarita recipe to make! Here's how.
- In your margarita glass, squeeze ¼ of a lime and add ¼ teaspoon of light agave.
- Add in your ice.
- Add your 2 oz. of tequila and top with sparkling water.
- Give it a mix with a spoon and enjoy!
How do you make a skinny margarita pitcher?
Since this skinny margarita has sparkling water, here's how I recommend making this a batch skinny margarita, without the drink losing it's fizz.
- In a pitcher add 2 oz. of tequila per person you want to serve.
- Squeeze in ¼ of a lime per person. 4 people equals 1 lime.
- Add in ¼ teaspoon of light agave per person you want to serve.
- Mix this together in your pitcher.
- Once you're ready to serve, in a glass filled with ice, pour in 2 oz. of your tequila, lime and light agave mixture. Top with sparkling water.
This way, your sparkling water isn't sitting out and getting flat, but you don't need to go through every single step to make this margarita for every person at your party.
What tequila is best for margaritas?
I always recommend using Blanco for margarita recipes, especially spicy margaritas. Blanco is not an aged tequila, like Reposado or Añejo, so it allows the flavors of your margarita to be the stars of the show.
You can absolutely use Reposado for margaritas, but you'll get that richer, aged taste. You'll notice that in these photos I used Reposado tequila, and it is delicious! Reposado tequila is aged for anywhere from two months to a year in barrels prior to being bottled. That's where the golden hue and the richer flavor come from.
Añejo is tequila that is aged for anywhere from one to three years and is truly made to be sipped on. So, I would recommend not making a margarita with Añejo tequila, and rather pour it over ice and enjoy it straight.

Can I make this into a frozen margarita?
I would avoid making this into a frozen skinny margarita. Bubbles and blenders aren't the best of friends.
