You'll love this jalapeno infused tequila
It's so easy to make. Just two ingredients are all you need to make this homemade spicy tequila! It's so easy to make and the fresh jalapeno flavor really elevates all your favorite tequila cocktails. Plus, it is good for 6 months! You can keep it on your bar cart or in your fridge to always be ready to whip out that spicy margarita recipe.
It's perfect for spicy cocktails. You can turn any cocktail recipe into a spicy one with this jalapeño-infused tequila. That peppery flavor is the perfect flavor to complement the zesty sweetness of fruit juice and agave.
Ingredients
Fresh Jalapeños. Of course, you'll need jalapenos for this jalapeno infused tequila! I only use 2 jalapenos, but I do keep the seeds in. I find that gives me th perfect amount of heat. You can always include some extra jalapeño slices in your spicy cocktails if 2 jalapenos aren't enough spice for you.
Tequila. My choice of tequila is blanco tequila. Blanco, otherwise known as white or silver, isn't an aged tequila, so there isn't that oaky barrel taste. It's the best blank canvas as I call it for any tequila infusion.
How to make jalapeno infused tequila
- First, wash and slice your jalapenos. You want to keep the seeds of the peppers! Also, don't worry about thinly slicing, you can make thicker slices.
- Next, place your jalapenos in your airtight container. Pour in your 750 mL bottle of tequila. Close the container, give it a good shake, and place your tequila in the fridge for 1 - 2 days.
- Taste test your tequila after a day to see the spice level. If you want a bit more bite, let it sit and infuse for a bit longer.
- After you let your tequila sit, remove the jalapenos. Keep your tequila in the fridge and use it to make all your favorite spicy cocktails.
If you're wondering what type of container to use for your jalapeno-infused tequila, you can use a canning jar, mason jar, an empty tequila bottle, or really any clean airtight container.
Tip: don't use the whole pepper! Be sure to slice the pepper to expose the seeds to get that spice.
What kind of tequila should I use?
The type of tequila I always recommend is blanco tequila, otherwise known as silver tequila. It is unaged so it's a very mild tequila and is great for making cocktails or any infused tequilas. Reposado tequila or anejo tequila are aged in oak barrels so they have that oaky flavor that could be a bit funky to infuse.
Storing infused tequila
I personally prefer to store my infused tequila in the fridge. Store it in an airtight container and then it'll be ready to make all the spicy margaritas of your dreams.
Drinks to make with jalapeno tequila
If you know me, you know I love good margarita recipes. You can use this jalapeno infused tequila to make this passion fruit margarita, spicy cucumber margarita, or raspberry margarita. You can even use it to add spicy flavors to some of my favorite cocktail recipes like this pineapple ranch water, bloody mary, swap out the vodka for jalapeno tequila in this pineapple vodka cocktail, or this Corona sunrise.
My #1 tip for this is to have fun! Swap out a spirit for this jalapeno tequila and enjoy being an amateur mixologist in your own home.
Can you use other hot peppers?
You can! If you want to really up the spice level, swap out fresh jalapenos for red chili peppers or even habanero peppers. I highly recommend staying away from bell peppers, though. Only use a variety of spicy peppers.
