How to Cook Frozen Sweet Potato Fries in the Air Fryer

    Jump to Recipe

Cooking frozen sweet potato fries in the air fryer is one of the best ways to cook frozen fries. Whether you're looking for a quick, easy snack or a side dish for a weeknight dinner, this is the perfect option!

how to cook frozen sweet potato fries in the air fryer

Are frozen sweet potato fries pre-fried?

Yes! Frozen fries are a majority of the time pre-fried and then frozen. So, if you're looking for a healthy sweet potato fry recipe, this might not be it, considering these are already pre-fried. Nonetheless, they are so delicious and turn out perfectly every time!

    Ingredients needed

You truly need nothing but frozen sweet potato fries for this recipe! If you want to get fancy and add some seasoning to the frozen sweet potato fries, you can always add garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Those three are my go-to seasonings whenever making any fry.

    • Frozen Sweet Potatoes - use whatever brand is your favorite or what's on sale!

Can I cook frozen sweet potatoes in air fryer?

Yes, you totally can! It's such a great way to cook frozen fries because they turn out crispy every single time. I love cooking frozen fries in the air fryer year-round, but this recipe is especially useful in the summer. Who doesn't love fries with a grilled burger? Instead of firing up your oven in the middle of summer... I'm sweating just thinking about it... you can fire up your air fryer and still get crispy, delicious fries as a side dish.

How long should you put frozen sweet potato fries in the air fryer?

The great thing about this air fryer fries recipe is that it's so hands-off. Other than shaking the air fryer basket halfway through cooking, there's nothing needed on your end!

    1. Preheat your air fryer to 400F. If you air fryer doesn't have a preheat setting, place it at 400F and let it run, empty, for 5 minutes.
    2. Add in your sweet potato fries. The amount of fries will vary based on the size of your air fryer basket. Fill the basket with the frozen fries, fill it just enough so the bottom of the basket is covered. Try not to overlap, but if there is, that's ok!
    3. Air fry for 6 minutes at 400F. Shake. Air fry for 6 more minutes. Cook for an additional 2 minutes depending on your air fryer and preference.
    4. Allow to cool for a few minutes and pair with your favorite dipping sauce to enjoy.

Here are some of the best dipping sauces

Of course, you need dipping sauces for sweet potato fries! Here's a list of some of my favorite pairings.

    • Sriracha Ketchup - it's as easy as it sounds. I love mixing together sriracha with ketchup for a spicy dip.
    • Honey Mustard - I love the sweet and tangy combination of honey mustard pairing with the sweet and savory sweet potato fries.
    • BBQ Sauce - whatever is your favorite, similar to the honey mustard the sweet, smokey and slighly spicy taste of the BBQ sauce compliments the sweet and savory flavors of the sweet potato fries.
    • Garlic Aoili - I mean, what doesn't garlic aioli taste good with? It's so easy to make homemade, too!

    Helpful kitchen tools...

    • Air Fryer: obviously you need an air fryer to make this recipe! If you're debating which one to buy or looking for a new one, between the two I have used, I highly recommend the Cosori Air Fryer.

    Questions and tips

Here are some common questions and tips to make the best frozen sweet potato fries!

Do you need to preheat an air fryer?

Yes! It's similar to an oven. You should preheat your air fryer so whatever you're cooking turns out perfectly crispy and cooked. Similar to an oven, if you place your food in a cold air fryer, they will turn out a bit soggy as they aren't being cooked at the proper temperature 100% of the time.

What seasonings are best for frozen sweet potato fries?

I love going the savory route with sweet potato fries. So, I like adding garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. You can absolutely toss them in cinnamon brown sugar if you want to go the sweet route, and pair it with marshmallow fluff. Like dessert on a plate!

Do you have a favorite brand of frozen fries?

I don't! I will buy whatever is on sale, but I know people love Alexia frozen fries, but buy whatever is on sale, or stocked at your grocery store.
