Ingredients for Halloween candy cookies.
Here's what you'll need to make these cookies with candy bars.
Butter. I always prefer to use butter over shortening for my cookie recipes mainly because I always have it in the fridge, so I don't need to buy an ingredient for one specific recipe. Budget-friendly!
Brown Sugar. Did you know if you don't have brown sugar, you can combine molasses with sugar?
White Sugar. Whatever brand you prefer or whatever is on sale is perfectly fine!
Eggs. You don't have to bring you eggs down to room temperature, but I would recommend it.
Vanilla Extract. I normally buy my vanilla extract from Costco, but a family friend gave us homemade vanilla extract and it is SO GOOD. Oh my gosh, and it seems fairly easy to make homemade vanilla extract.
All-Purpose Flour. Some cookie recipes call for cake flour or bread flour, but trying to get the most bang for your buck, this recipe uses all-purpose flour!
Baking Soda. Baking soda is a part of the science of baking, this helps the cookies rise. These cookies are pretty fluffy and delicious!
Salt. Aside from being necessary, I love a perfectly salted chocolate chip cookie. It is the best!
Candy. Now, you can use Halloween candy, or if you're making this around the holidays, use your favorite holiday candy, or you may be making this outside of the span of October - December, use any candy!
How to make candy cookies.
- Preheat your oven to 350F.
- In a separate bowl, combine your flour, baking soda, and salt. Whisk and set aside.
- In your stand mixer or general mixing bowl, mix together your butter, brown sugar and white sugar.
- Once that is combined, mix in one egg at a time. Once your eggs are mixed, add in your vanilla.
- With your mixer on the slowest speed, slowly add your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients.
- Once they are just mixed together, fold in your candy.
- Do not chill this dough! Once the candy is folded in, scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough balls. Roll and place on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.
- Chop up the remaining 1 cup of candy and place a few pieces on top of each dough ball.
- Bake at 350F for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- You'll have to bake in batches until the dough is gone.
- Allow to cool, slightly, and enjoy!
Best way to store homemade cookies?
You'll want to store them in an airtight container. I keep them on the counter, no need to refrigerate them! If you want to save them for later, you can keep them in the freezer (dough form or cookie form) to have for whenever you want!
Tips for making the best candy cookies.
Dry + Wet Mix. When baking anything, I always combine the dry ingredients in a bowl and set it aside. Then, I combine the wet ingredients and slowly add the dry to the wet. That's a baking tip you'll want to remember!
Save some candy. If you want beautiful bakery-style cookies, save some mix-ins and then place a few pieces on top!
Pin it for later!
