This Strawberry Moscow Mule recipe is one of my favorite Moscow Mule variations for summer! It's crisp and so refreshing. Plus, it's an easy way to switch up your summer vodka cocktails.
You'll love this strawberry mule
Take advantage of strawberry season. Is there anything better than summer strawberry season? I will use any excuse and recipe I can to use them! They're so juicy and flavorful, how can you not?
It’s a simple summer cocktail that you’ll love. Simply muddle some fresh strawberries to add a sweet summer flavor. It's an easy twist on a classic Moscow mule recipe.
It’s so refreshing! Have I mentioned how refreshing it is? It's genuinely one of the best summer vodka cocktails. The sweet strawberries paired with the spicy ginger beer and lime juice, it's a perfect cocktail.
Ingredients
Fresh Strawberries. Of course, you need fresh strawberries. You can use frozen if you don't happen to have any fresh strawberries on hand. However, if you use frozen, be sure to let them sit out, or microwave them for 15 minutes to let them thaw. You can't muddle frozen strawberries!
Fresh Mint. Fresh mint is essential for any Moscow Mule cocktail. You can grow it in your garden during the summer or find it in the herb section in your local grocery store.
Fresh Lime Juice. I am an absolute proponent for fresh lime, I do not like using fake lime juice in cocktails. I think it adds a weird flavor and it's just as easy to add fresh lime to your cocktail.
Ginger Beer. You need ginger beer for any Moscow Mule, I prefer to use diet ginger beer, but you can use whatever ginger beer is your favorite. If you're wondering what brands to use, I recommend Q Ginger Beer, Fever Tree Ginger Beer, or Barritt's.
Vodka. Traditional Moscow Mules are made with plain vodka, if you want to make it with another liquor, feel free! If you're wondering what brand of vodka to use, I recommend Tito's or Grey Goose.
How to make this strawberry mule
Here's how you make this easy strawberry mule recipe, it's such a fruity twist on a classic cocktail. You'll love the strawberry flavor with the ginger beer.
- Muddle your fresh strawberries, lime, and mint together in your copper mug.
- Add fresh ice to your mug.
- Add 2.5 oz. vodka and top with ginger beer.
- Give it a stir so your muddled strawberries are well mixed, and enjoy!
Why does a Moscow Mule have to be in a copper mug?
First, the copper acts as an insulator ensuring your drink stays cold for as long as possible. Second, some people say that copper cup enhances the flavor of the cocktail's ingredients. The copper begins to oxidize when the vodka is poured in, making the flavors a bit more elevated. It's a chemical reaction between the vodka and the copper, pretty cool! So, in summary, yes! I recommend serving in a Moscow mule mug.
You can serve this in a cocktail glass, but I recommend always having copper mugs when playing home bartender.
Substitutions and variations
Ginger Ale. If you don't have ginger beer or prefer a sweeter cocktail, I recommend using ginger ale in place of ginger beer. You can also use a splash of simple syrup with ginger beer. You still get that gingery flavor but with a little extra sweetness.
Mocktail. If you want to make this into a strawberry mule mocktail simply omit the vodka! You still get a delicious drink, but in a non-alcoholic beverage version.
Fresh Lemon Juice. If you don't have limes, fresh lemon juice is a great substitute.
Liquor. You don't have to use vodka! You can always make this strawberry cocktail with bourbon or tequila.
Garnish ideas

Can I make this a batched drink?
This strawberry mule cocktail is a super easy recipe to transition into a batch vodka cocktail recipe! You'll want to take the recipe and multiply the amounts by how many cocktails you need to make.
For example, this will make 8 cocktails.
- In a large pitcher, muddle 24 strawberries, 4 limes, and 16 mint leaves.
- Add in 20 oz. of vodka, ice and top with 24 oz. of ginger beer.
If you need to make this in advance. Don't add the ice and ginger beer until right before you serve this drink. You don't want the ice to completely water down the cocktail and you don't want the ginger beer to become flat.
