What is a holiday without a dedicated sangria recipe? This Halloween sangria has all your favorite fall flavors turned into a perfect spooktacular addition to any Halloween party.
You'll love this Halloween sangria
It's easy to make. This is so easy to make if you're looking for quick Halloween cocktails to make for your next party.
It tastes like fall. The cooler months are red wine season for me, so pair a warm, cozy red wine with fall flavors like apple and cinnamon, and you get the perfect fall drink. This might look like a spooky sangria but it tastes so sweet and just like October!
It's so perfect for Halloween. There are so many fun ways to dress up this sangria to make it so fun and on-theme with Halloween! This is one of my favorite sangria recipes for Halloween.
Ingredients
Red Wine. I like to use a lighter-bodied red wine like a Pinot Noir, red blend, or a merlot for this spooky Halloween sangria recipe. I find that the lightness and sweeter flavors pair better with the rest of the ingredients. If you prefer a cabernet sauvignon, by all means, use that! I wouldn't recommend using a sweet red wine, all the rest of the ingredients are pretty sweet, so you'll want a wine to balance the flavors.
Brandy. Brandy is a typical ingredient in any red wine sangria recipe, however, if you don't have brandy, I'm sure you have one of the substitutes I listed below!
Pomegranate Juice. To add to that deep purple color and give this sangria a perfect dark hue that screams "spooky season" I like using pomegranate juice.
Apple Cider. If you've never had the combination of apple cider and pomegranate juice, it's so delicious and a great combination for the fall weather.
Cinnamon Sticks. To add that last bit of spice to this sangria, I love letting cinnamon sticks sit in the sangria for a few hours!
Ginger Ale. Upon serving, to add a bit of fizz, I love topping with ginger ale. If you want some other suggestions, I included them below!
Add-Ins. What is sangria without fresh fruit soaking in the wine? You can add slices of apples, black grapes, slices of black plums, pomegranate seeds, blood oranges, green apple slices... have some fun with fresh fruit that is on theme with Halloween colors!
How to make this Halloween sangria
- In a large pitcher, mix together your bottle of red wine, ½ cup brandy, ½ cup pomegranate juice, ¾ cup apple cider and 2-3 cinnamon sticks.
- Stir together and add in your fresh fruit. Refrigerate your pitcher of sangria for at least 2 hours.
- Once you're ready to serve, pour 4 oz servings into a wine glass filled with ice.
- Scoop some of the sangria fruit into the glass, and top with 1-2 oz of ginger ale.
Substitutions and variations
Brandy. If you don't have brandy in your home bar, you can also use triple sec, any orange liqueur, whiskey, a raspberry liqueur like Chambord, rum or cognac as a substitute. Lots of flexibility here!
Pomegranate Juice. You can sub out pomegranate juice for cranberry juice, grape juice, or orange juice.
Apple Cider. You can always use apple juice instead of apple cider.
Pitcher. If you don't have a large pitcher, you can always serve this in a punch bowl, or you can make it super Halloween and serve it in a witch's cauldron!
Garnish ideas
Even though you have fresh fruit in the sangria, that doesn't mean you can't garnish it!
- Blood orange slices
- Lychee fruit stuffed with blueberries... they make creepy edible eyeballs!
- Plastic Spiders
- Gummy eyeballs or other Halloween gummy candies
Pin it for later!
