You’ll love this pineapple green smoothie

It's so yummy. This is one of my favorite smoothie recipes. It's so easy to whip together in the morning and has a burst of tropical flavor with the fresh pineapple and ginger.

It's customizable. There are so many ways to make this smoothie your own. Between the milk you use or swapping spinach for kale, I'm sharing all my favorite variations and substitutions below.

It's packed with vitamins and nutrients. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to get that extra boost of vitamins and nutrients, this pineapple green smoothie is definitely a great way to do that.

Health benefits of a green smoothie

There are lots of benefits of green smoothies, from being high in fiber to being full of vitamins, here are a few.

Vitamins. Green smoothies, especially this pineapple green smoothie recipe, are super high in Vitamin C, and Vitamin K, and leafy greens are a great source of B vitamins making it so easy to meet your daily values of certain vitamins and nutrients without taking supplements.

High Fiber Content. Leafy greens, like spinach or fresh kale, are a great source of insoluble fiber which helps with your digestive health and makes you feel fuller for longer which makes this healthy green smoothie, and others, great for a weight loss journey if that's something you're currently on.

Lower Risk of Chronic Diseases. Leafy greens are packed with antioxidants which helps your body fight against free radicals which can damage cells and lead to issues like heart disease, cancer, or chronic inflammation.

    Ingredients

Pineapple. You can use fresh or frozen pineapple chunks, but do not use canned. Canned has added sugar you won't want to add to your fruit smoothie.

Baby Spinach. This is what gives this smoothie that beautiful green color. I like using fresh spinach because it has a mild taste, and I don't think you can taste it at all. You can also use kale and turn this into a kale pineapple smoothie recipe.

Ginger. Ginger has so many benefits and I like the bit of spice that it adds to this tropical green smoothie.

Honey. To sweeten it up just a little bit, I like to add in a dash of honey. Plus, there are lots of benefits of honey, too!

Milk. You can use your milk of choice, I prefer organic skim milk.

Ice Cubes. If you are not using frozen pineapple chunks or any other frozen fruit, you will want to add a few ice cubes to ensure that your pineapple spinach green smoothie is actually cold.

    2. Blend until smooth, pour into a glass and enjoy!

How do you make green smoothies taste better?

Your green smoothies may taste a bit too "green," but luckily there are ways that you can sweeten your drink while still keeping it a healthy smoothie.

    1. Apple Sauce
    2. Honey
    3. Light Agave
    4. Stevia
    5. Monkfruit
    6. Maple Syrup

    Variations and substitutions

Milk. I use organic skim milk in this recipe. Still, based on any dietary restrictions or lifestyle preferences, you can use coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk, or any other non-dairy milk.

Water and juices. You don't even have to use milk in this smoothie, you can use coconut water, orange juice or apple juice in place of the milk. If you're opting to go the juice route, I recommend using half juice and half water.

Optional Add-Ins. You can add seeds for an extra boost of healthy fats like Omega-3. Great seeds for that are chia seeds or hemp seeds.

Up to protein. If you like more grams of protein in your smoothies, you can add Greek yogurt, nut butters like almond butter, or a scoop of vanilla protein powder.

Add more fruit. You can absolutely add more frozen or fresh fruits to this smoothie. Some of my favorite fruits to add to this recipe are strawberries or mangoes. If you are using frozen fruit, you may have to add more liquid.

How do you make smoothies thicker?

These are some of my favorite ways to thicken a smoothie. I prefer a thicker smoothie as opposed to a watery smoothie, so these are some tried and true healthy ingredients I have used.

    1. Adding a frozen banana is a great way to get a creamy texture while making your smoothie thicker.
    2. Adding a quarter or half of an avocado. This makes for such creamy smoothies.
    3. Add a scoop of raw oats. This is a great choice if you're looking to incorporate some complex carbs into your pineapple spinach smoothie recipe.

Can this smoothie be made the night before?

I wouldn't recommend making this the night before, but you can prep the ingredients in freezer-safe bags so all you have to do in the morning is dump it in the blender, add your liquid, and blend. So when you have those busy weeks, I recommend prepping these for a quick and easy breakfast smoothie.
