This margarita is so delicious! It is essentially a mixed berry margarita and it is the perfect balance of sweet and zesty. Perfect for spooky season!
It’s a low-calorie margarita recipe. It uses fresh fruit and seltzer water, so it's a low-calorie margarita without sacrificing any of the flavors.
It’s perfect for Halloween. Seriously, look at that color! It's so perfect for all your Halloween parties. I got the eyeballs from Dollar Tree, they are actually ping-pong balls, perfect.

That color is so perfect for Halloween and it is so easy to achieve! All you need is some fresh berries and Chambord. If you don't have Chambord in your home bar, I highly recommend it for not only Halloween cocktails but for the holiday season in general.
Ingredients
Nothing says "Happy Halloween" like a fun and festive themed margarita.
Raspberries and Blackberries. You can truly use any berry you'd like, but you absolutely need blackberries. If you can't find any fresh, or if fresh berries are expensive in your grocery store, you can always use a frozen blend. Simply thaw the berries before muddling.
Fresh Lime. I always include fresh lime in my margaritas, it is a must.
Chambord. Chambord is a black raspberry liqueur and I love including this in fall drinks. The color is gorgeous, it has a sweet berry flavor and you should totally have this on your home bar.
Tequila. Of course, you need tequila for a margarita! I recommend using a Blanco tequila for all margaritas.
Triple Sec. Triple sec, lime, and silver tequila are part of the traditional margarita recipe and are essential for this festive cocktail, too.
Seltzer Water. I used lemon seltzer water for this recipe. You can use plain, lemon, lime, or mixed berry-flavored seltzer water.
Best tequila for margaritas?
I always recommend using Blanco for margarita recipes, especially this Halloween margarita. Blanco is not an aged tequila, like Reposado or Añejo, so it allows the flavors of your margarita to be the stars of the show.
You can absolutely use Reposado for margaritas, but you'll get that richer, aged taste. You'll notice that in these photos I used Reposado tequila, and it is delicious! Reposado tequila is aged for anywhere from two months to a year in barrels prior to being bottled. That's where the golden hue and the richer flavor come from.
Añejo is tequila that is aged for anywhere from one to three years and is truly made to be sipped on. So, I would recommend not making a margarita with Añejo tequila, and rather pour it over ice and enjoy it straight.

Substitutions and variations
Simple Syrup. If you like your drinks sweeter, don't be afraid to add a dash of simple syrup to make this into your perfect drink. Alternatively, if you want more of the classic margarita flavors, you can also use agave nectar.
Blood Orange Juice. You can swap the berries out of blood orange juice. It's a gorgeous deep purple color and pairs so nicely with Chambord, too.
Pomegranate Juice. Similar to blood orange juice, pomegranate juice goes so great with Chambord and also gives you that deep purple color perfect for a spooky Halloween margarita.
Garnish ideas for this Halloween margarita
The perfect cocktail needs the perfect garnish, that's the best part! Here are some garnish ideas for all your spooky margarita recipes.
- Dry Ice. Now, you'll have to be so careful if you choose to go this route, but that smoke is perfect for a Halloween margarita recipe.
- Black Salt. You can get black lava salt from Amazon, and it's the perfect garnish for this spooky Halloween cocktail recipe.
- Fresh Blackberries.
- Lime Slices or a Lime Wedge.
- Edible Glitter. So, this one technically isn't a garnish but if you want to make this into like black magic margaritas and add some edible glitter, that would be so much fun.
FAQ
Is Triple Sec or Cointreau better for margaritas?
Cointreau technically makes the better margarita. It's a higher quality triple sec, so it really gives you that full flavor profile you look for when creating the perfect margarita. However, I use triple sec the majority of the time and enjoy my homemade margaritas.
Is white or dark tequila better for margaritas?
You'll want to use white tequila, or tequila Blanco, for margaritas. It is the most user-friendly tequila to mix with since it hasn't been aged.
