You'll love this grapefruit mimosa
It's refreshing. With a few simple ingredients, this grapefruit mimosa is so refreshing and the perfect excuse to take advantage of grapefruit season. You'll love making this for your next brunch whether it's a special occasion like Valentine's Day (make it alongside this Chambord Spritz for the perfect celebration), Mother's Day, or a bridal shower, or just your typical Sunday brunch.
It's easy to make. I'm sure you've made a mimosa before, and this is the same thing except with grapefruit juice instead of orange juice. It's such a fun spin on the classic brunch cocktail to go along with all your favorite brunch dishes like French Toast Casserole or Air Fryer Donuts.
Ingredients
Grapefruit Juice. For mimosas, it is so easy to have homemade juice available. You don't need that much, and you get the best juicy grapefruits during citrus season. You can have a few grapefruits for fresh juice for your mimosas. Fresh juice totally takes it to the next level.
Prosecco. I like to use fairly inexpensive prosecco when making any basic mimosa recipe. Because you are mixing the wine with juice, there's no point in buying expensive champagne or prosecco because the taste will be slightly masked.
How to make this grapefruit mimosa
- In a champagne flute, add in 2 oz. of fresh grapefruit juice.
- Top with champagne or prosecco.
- Garnish with a grapefruit triangle and rosemary sprig.
- Cheers!
How to juice grapefruit
Juicing a grapefruit is SO easy! You can buy a countertop juicer or I have this small juicer that works perfectly. I like juicing my own pink grapefruit juice because it makes for a much more delicious recipe.
If you want to make real grapefruit juice for a crowd, I would recommend getting 3-4 large grapefruits. You can always buy store-bought grapefruit juice.
Tips for making the best mimosa
If you're looking to not make just your regular grapefruit mimosa recipe, here are some tips to help you.
Chill. Chill your prosecco and juice before making this! If you are putting together a mimosa bar, you'll want to make sure you have an ice tub to keep everything cold while sitting out.
Fresh Juice. If you want to truly upgrade this simple cocktail, you need to have fresh juice. This pink grapefruit mimosa is so much better with fresh grapefruit juice.
Best wine for mimosas
I prefer an affordable prosecco. Since you are mixing the wine with juice, you don't want to ruin expensive sparkling wine by mixing something with it.
Garnish ideas
- Rosemary Sprig
- Mint Sprig
- Grapefruit Slice
- Grapefruit Twist
Substitutions and variations
Juice. If you don't like grapefruit juice, you can swap out with cranberry juice or pomegranate juice to still get that fun pink color.
Wine. If you don't like sparkling wine, you can also make this with a dry white wine of your choice.
Grand Marnier. If you want to add a little bit of flare to this grapefruit mimosa, you can add a splash of triple sec or Grand Marnier.
Simple Syrup. If grapefruit juice isn't sweet enough for you, you can add a splash of simple syrup to this bubbly cocktail.
Rosé Champagne. If you want to make this extra pink, make this with a sparkling rosé instead of dry champagne.
Mocktail. If you want to make this a mocktail, you can sub out the prosecco for club soda or a non-alcoholic sparkling wine. That way you can still enjoy this brunch drink, but without the alcohol.
Variations of mimosas
If you want to switch things up from traditional mimosas, there are so many fun variations on this classic cocktail! Here are some juices you can use.
- Blood Orange Juice
- Cranberry Juice
- Pomegranate Juice
- Grapefruit Juice
- Mango Nectar
