Where did brownies come from?
Brownies' origin story starts in the US, however, the exact origin of brownies may never be known. One story claims that brownies were invented in 1893 at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago. Bertha Palmer (her husband owned Palmer House) requested something small that can fit in boxed lunches, but also something cake-like, and thus the Palmer House Brownie was born. It was made with chocolate, walnuts, and an apricot glaze. Currently, Palmer House still serves dessert to its patrons using the same recipe.
Ingredients
This is such an easy brownie recipe, I am going to guess that you already have a handful, if not, all of these ingredients in your pantry right now!
All-Purpose Flour. This is the base of your brownies and I always opt to use AP flour as opposed to any other baking flour.
Baking Powder. The sweetened condensed milk makes this batter extremely thick and watery, so the baking powder is the perfect leavening agent for these chewy brownies.
Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. Of course, you need cocoa powder for brownies, without that, these are just blondies!
Butter. Make sure your butter is softened. This makes all the difference in your brownie batter consistency. I use salted butter, but you can use unsalted butter, too. You'll just have to double to amount of salt.
Salt. Although I use salted butter, I still like to add a pinch of salt to the brownie mixture, too.
White Sugar. I love using a combination of white sugar and brown sugar in my baked goods. I find it gives the perfect balance of sweetness, chewy and gooey.
Brown Sugar. Brown sugar along with the sweetened condensed milk really makes for delicious outer edge pieces.
Eggs. You'll need 2 large eggs at room temperature.
Vanilla Extract. Always include a splash of vanilla extract whenever you are baking.
Sweetened Condensed Milk. Of course, you'll need sweetened condensed milk for this recipe. I use a whole can of condensed milk because I just don't feel like dealing with leftover condensed milk.
Chocolate Chips. I love mixing in chocolate chips. They melt into the brownie batter and make for extra chocolatey brownies. I opt for a mix of semi-sweet chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips. I also save a little bit to add on top to make sure the chocolate chips are evenly distributed.

If you're looking for some add-ins to make the most delicious dessert, here are some ideas for some brownie hacks.

You can also top them with cream cheese frosting!
How to make condensed milk brownies
These one-bowl brownies are so easy to make. I typically don't love homemade brownies, but these are seriously the absolute best.
- Preheat oven to 375F and line a 9x9 inch pan with parchment paper. This makes this far easier when removing the brownies from the metal pan.
- Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer, cream together the butter, sugar, and condensed milk in a large bowl.
- Add in the eggs and vanilla extract.
- Add your dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt) into the mixing bowl. No need to mix the dry ingredients together in a small bowl!
- Fold in your chocolate chips, and be sure to save some for the top of the brownies.
- Pour your brownie batter into the prepared pan.
- Pour into your prepared 9x9 pan and bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean after being stuck in the middle.
- Allow the brownies to cool and then using a sharp knife, slice them into squares. Be sure to wipe the knife clean after every cut, this'll give you the best results.
- Serve on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
Condensed milk brownies tips and tricks
- Make sure your butter and eggs are at room temperature.
- If you want extra chocolatey brownies, use dark cocoa powder. The dark chocolate flavor makes for truly the ultimate brownie recipe.

How to store homemade brownies
You'll want to store these delicious brownies in an airtight container. That is the best way for keeping them fresh for the next 3-4 days.
