You'll love this lychee martini
It's easy to make. With a few simple ingredients, you can make this easy cocktail. The only real work needed is blending the lychees and the syrup it comes canned in.
It's so tropical and fun. This is the perfect cocktail to make if you are looking for a fun, fruity drink for summer, but you still want to stick with a simple martini recipe.
You can make it into a batched cocktail. Since there are no sparkling ingredients in this recipe, it would be so easy to make as a batched cocktail! I've included the recipe below.
Ingredients
Lychee Puree. I make lychee puree by blending together canned lychees in the lychee syrup they are canned in. You can typically find canned lychees at your local grocery store.
Vodka. I use plain vodka for this lychee cocktail because I want the lychee flavor to really shine through.
Elderflower Liqueur. Lychees have a slightly floral flavor, so I love making this tropical martini with elderflower liqueur instead of triple sec, which I typically include in all of my fruity martinis.
Lime Juice. To cut the sweetness of the fruit and the elderflower liqueur, I add the juice of half a lime. It adds the perfect amount of zest that counterbalances the sweetness.
How to make a lychee martini
- Make your lychee puree by blending the canned lychees in the syrup they come in. Be sure to save a lychee or two for a garnish!
- In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz vodka, 1 oz elderflower liqueur, 2 oz of lychee puree, and ½ of a lime, juiced.
- Add ice and shake for at least a minute.
- Strain into a chilled martini glass, garnish with a lychee fruit, and cheers!
What is a lychee?
A lychee is an Asian fruit that is native to Southeast Asia. A fresh lychee fruit has a red bumpy skin that you peel to reveal a light blush-colored tropical fruit that is sweet with a slight floral flavor. You will have to remove the skin and the pit to eat the fruit, but next time you are at your local grocery store, keep an eye out for them!
How to make a batched lychee martini
This is such an easy martini recipe to make a big batch of for your next party! Here's how to make 10 cocktails.
- In a large pitcher, combine 2.5 cups of vodka, 2.5 cups of lychee puree, 1 ¼ cup of elderflower liqueur, and 5 oz of lime juice.
- Mix well and store in the fridge until you are ready to serve.
- To serve, add 5 oz per cocktail of the batched cocktail into a shaker filled with ice.
- Strain into your chilled martini glasses, garnish, and cheers!
Substitutions and variations
Lychee Juice. If you can't find canned lychees, you will most likely be able to find lychee juice. Simply use 2 oz of lychee juice as a substitute for the lychee puree.
Elderflower Liqueur Substitute. If you don't like the floral notes of elderflower liqueur, or you don't have it, you can use triple sec, or any orange liqueur, dry vermouth, or lychee liqueur. If you like a dry martini, I recommend substituting with dry vermouth! If you love the flavor of lychee, I recommend using a lychee liqueur. You can also use Passoa, a passion fruit liqueur, in place of the elderflower!
Simple Syrup. If this cocktail isn't sweet enough for you, you can always add a bit of simple syrup to this lychee vodka cocktail.
Sake Lychee Martini. If you like sake, you can totally substitute the vodka for sake!
Lychee Lady Cocktail. Use gin instead of vodka and add a splash of grenadine for an easy version of the lychee lady cocktail!
Tips and tricks for making the best martini
Cold glasses. I always recommend putting your martini glasses in the freezer while you are making your martinis. The colder the martini glasses, the better!
Cocktail glasses. I recommend using a classic martini glass for this cocktail, but you can use you favorite glassware!
