It's delicious. This brown sugar apple syrup is seriously SO good! You will not be able to get enough of it during the fall season.
Ingredients
With a few simple ingredients, this crisp apple homemade syrup comes together in no time.
Water. I use regular, filtered water. Typically simple syrup is equal parts sugar and water. With this syrup, I use a mix of water and apple cider to really bring that flavor of warm apple pie to the syrup.
Apple Cider. I buy fresh apple cider from the grocery store, and I recommend using apple cider as opposed to apple juice! It gives such a fresh flavor.
Brown Sugar. Brown sugar is a must for this simple syrup recipe! Traditional simple syrup is made with white sugar, but the brown sugar just adds that extra bit of fall flavor.
Cinnamon Sticks. Cinnamon sticks are also a must for captivating those fall flavors. You only need one or two cinnamon sticks.
Honeycrisp Apple. I use a whole Honeycrisp apple in this recipe to bring some fresh flavor to it! It's so good.
Tip: I recommend using cinnamon sticks as opposed to ground cinnamon, the ground cinnamon won't filter out as well and you don't want that sediment in your syrup!
How to make apple crisp syrup
- In a small pot, combine all of your ingredients: water, apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, and your fresh Honeycrisp apple.
- Over medium heat, stir your syrup mixture until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Remove from the heat and let the syrup sit for 30 minutes.
- Strain into an airtight container, and store in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.
Tip: I strain the simple syrup into a measuring cup with a spout, and then use a funnel to pour it into an airtight jar. It makes the transfer process much easier!
