Notes

How to make this as a batched cocktail

If you want to make this as a batched cocktail or ahead of time, here's how I recommend making 10 servings of this cocktail.
  1. In a slow cooker, add in 9 cups of hot chocolate. Set it on "warm" and cover it.
  2. Once you're ready to serve, pour 2 oz RumChata into a mug and top with hot chocolate.
  3. Top with mini marshmallows or whipped cream.
  4. Store your leftover hot chocolate in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
  5. Enjoy!
You can serve this for a holiday brunch, alongside dishes like this brioche french toast casserole, or as a holiday movie night!

Substitutions and variations

Bailey's Irish Cream. This is another cream liqueur that you could use in place of RumChata. It'll give you a more chocolate taste versus the cinnamon of the RumChata, but it still makes a delicious boozy hot cocoa.
Milk. Instead of water, you can also make this drink with hot milk. It'll make it an extra creamy hot cocoa. You can also add a splash of whole milk or heavy cream in addition to the RumChata.
Mexican Hot Chocolate. If you want to add a little kick to the traditional hot chocolate, make a Mexican hot chocolate, add a dash of chili powder and cayenne pepper.
Hot Cocoa Bombs. If you walk through any grocery store, you'll notice hot chocolate bombs this time of year. Simply place your hot chocolate bomb in a mug, pour hot water, or milk, over the bomb until it bursts. Mix well and add in your RumChata.
