With the holidays officially over… I feel like my life is finally getting somewhat back to normal and back to my regular routine… I wanted to chat about a Chicago staycation. Almost two years ago, I won a gift certificate to a hotel and got together with 3 of my best friends, who in later months became my roommates, and we had ourselves a staycation night in Chicago. It. Was. A. Blast. We call it “the night that started it all.” So grab your best girlfriends, or plan a Valentine’s Day weekend trip to the lovely city of Chicago.
WHERE TO STAY
The Blackstone Hotel is absolutely beautiful, and for those people coming from south of the city, it is super easy to get to. Whether you’re driving in, you don’t need to drive through the heart of the city, it is right there in the 600 block of South Michigan Avenue, or it is right by the LaSalle Street Metra Station for those who prefer to take the train in.
I was recently able to spend a day in one of their suites… you. guys. It was crazy beautiful in such an old Victorian, vintage way. You walk in and to your left is a “living” area, couches, chairs all surrounding a gorgeous fireplace. Then, you had a table that was able to seat 8-10 people. Then, you had a separate little area with a couch, a desk and a TV and a separate bathroom. Then you had the master bedroom and bathroom. Confirmed, the beds are incredibly comfortable. Tested and approved by me. The bathroom is beautiful, and huge, and comes with robes… what more could you ask for.
WHERE TO EAT
The Gage- great for brunch, lunch or dinner. Plus it is a quick walk up Michigan Avenue from The Blackstone.
Quartino– great for homemade, small plate Italian, personalized charcuterie boards and lots and lots of wine.
Big Star– what vacation is complete without a little tequila?
SteakBar– great for brunch to start your day off on the right foot.
