Jumbo Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies

Jumbo Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies

So I’m currently obsessed with the Netflix series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee… and Jerry Seinfeld had Julia Louis-Dreyfus on an episode. He asked her favorite cookie and she said chocolate chip and he made a comment like it was so unoriginal. Sea salt chocolate chip cookies are the best. Especially when they’re homemade and JUMBO.

I would also like to take the time to announce that I have a working laptop, and no longer need to work off our family’s Dell Desktop from like 2010. I have officially joined the MacBook family… happy Valentine’s Day to me.

This recipe was inspired by The Chunky Chef’s recipe for sea salt chocolate chip cookies. I made a few tweaks to her recipe, but more or less, she was the inspiration behind the recipe. These cookies crinkled so perfectly, I added extra sugar… solely because I didn’t want to get another measuring cup dirty. My laziness paid off though, they were delicious. I also added more vanilla… I love a lot of vanilla in my chocolate chip cookies.

I used semi-sweet chocolate chips, those are the best chocolate chips to use for sea salt chocolate chip cookies. I mean, there’s just no question asked. I’ve never let cookie dough sit in the fridge for like 30 min before baking it… I’m a fan. They were so easy to roll!

So here’s the recipe with more detail on how you can make these jumbo sea salt chocolate chip cookies. plus, it’s like super easy so def make these tonight for Valentine’s Day

Jumbo Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup salted butter at room temperature, 1 stick
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Add flour and baking soda to a mixing bowl and whisk for 15 seconds to incorporate and make them fluffy.
  2. To the bowl of a stand mixer, add softened butter and both sugars. Beat with paddle attachment for about 2 minutes, until mixture is smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and vanilla, beat on LOW speed until combined.
  4. Add flour, half the mixture at a time, beating on LOW speed until JUST combined after each addition. Don't overmix, or your cookies won't be soft and tender.
  5. Add chocolate chips and stir together with a wooden spoon.
  6. Cover bowl and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  7. minutes before you want to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  8. Use a large cookie scoop (or a 1/4 cup filled about 2/3 of the way), roll large balls of dough (about 1 inch thick) and place on a buttered cookie sheet.
  9. Press a couple chocolate chips into the tops of the balls of dough, and bake about 17-18 minutes.
  10. Sprinkle top of baked cookies with some sea salt flakes.
  11. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
